Hi all, I’m currently in my third week at the University of New Brunswick in the town of Fredericton. It’s a nice small town which is a great town to live for students. I left Melbourne on the 27th of Melbourne and after 5 flights and 46 hours later I arrived in Canada. Unfortunately for me my bags didn’t keep up with me. Luckily my dad travelled with me as he had business in England the following week so I got to borrow some of his clothes. I doubt I would have made the best first impression though with the fashion sense of a 45 year old man. On my first day in the country my coach Dan Mcmmoran picked me up from the airport and gave me the tour of UNB. The school now has one of the best training facilities in Canada in a 5 story multipurpose centre called the Richard J Currie Centre. The Currie centre has 4 weights rooms, a cycle class, a dance study but most importantly a massive volleyball stadium on level 4. I already can’t wait to play on the court. The team room is also amazing, we have a cable TV in the middle for us all to enjoy and all of our lockers have our name and playing number placed in it. On my second day in Fredericton we had our first unofficial training. By CIS rules the head coach is unable to run trainings at least until classes start. Because of this the 5th year players in the team ran the trainings and then we finished off with game play. I was very impressed by the standard and ability of both the new recruits and the returning players. Even the players who were a bit on the shorter side were extremely athletic and explosive with really high reaches. They are also a great bunch of guys who made me feel welcome straight away. Tomorrow we have our last official “try out” and then the final team is picked and we order all our gear which I’m very excited for. We are also allowed into our locker room.
I will update again soon. Hope you enjoyed reading
