I began playing volleyball in 2008 and have been lucky enough to have travelled and played throughout the world. I have been apart of GMVA since 2011 as both a current training full time athlete with the CoE and coach of primarily the Youth and Girls squads. I am the current Australian Women’s Volleyball team Captain and starting setter and am now entering my 4th international season with the Volleyroos. I spent 4 years playing collegiate volleyball throughout the United States of America where I captained a national Championship team at the National Junior College level as well as played 2 years in the top division of the NCAA. I graduated off 4 years of full scholarship tuition with a Bachelors degree in Criminal Justice and Sociology.
As a coach I am still developing my understanding of the game to balance out my passion for athletes development and opportunity within the sport. I am currently the Head of Volleyball at Wesley College and assistant coaching at the Victorian State team level.

Andrew Papalaskaris - Head Coach of SpikeZone, Youth, Junior and Senior Sessions
I have been playing volleyball since 2008, at various levels, including school, club, state teams and AVL. I'm the captain and starting setter for the premier team at Mazenod Volleyball club and believe that it is very important to continue to develop as a player, to allow yourself to offer personal experiences when developing athletes here at GMVA and beyond.
This same mindset follows with me and my coaching, I am always trying to learn new and improved ways to do things to get the best out of the athletes. I am very happy to be a part of GMVA, seeing athletes develop not only on the court but off the court as they continue through the program is a very humbling experience.

Mick Stevens - Head Coach of Youth, Junior, Senior and Assistant Coach in all Programs
I started playing volleyball in yr 7 and instantly fell in love with the game. After 18 years of playing and coaching I still love it. As a player I’ve represented my state from U16's - U21's, captained AVL team's and a proud member of Yarra Ranges Volleyball Club for the last 15 years. I’ve coached all levels of State League as well as multiple State Teams. I currently work as a Volleyball Coach for Wesley College and am excited to work with the amazing group of coaches at GMVA. What’s been more special for me than what I’ve achieved as a player and coach is the friendships and relationships I’ve made off the court. I’ve made life long friends that have mentored me and journeyed through life with me. GMVA gives me the opportunity to coach the sport I love as well as building relationships and working with young people.
Current Roles:

Tamsin Hinchley - Beach Volleyball Head Coach
Tamsin Hinchley is one of the few athletes in the world to be a dual-sport Olympian. She has represented Australia in two Olympic Games and has played over 350 international matches for her country. Her most recent and favorite achievement is placing 5th for beach volleyball at the Beijing Olympic Games 2008 with her partner Natalie Cook.
I enjoy coaching young athletes and helping them to push their limits to reach their goals. I try to bring the same ethic to the court as a coach and a player. I believe everyone has the ability to be be a top athlete so long as they do their best and always put 100% into every training, match and strength session. I believe volleyball should be fun but that doesn't mean taking it easy- it means trying new things, pushing your limits and at the end of the day feeling proud that you have achieved something either individually or as a team

“My approach for sport can be summarized with three words, Fun | Respect | Confidence, these are the key lessons I learned in my career as a player and coach.” Part of my athletic career includes my time as a Division I athlete in the U.S. My involvement in volleyball began after university in the San Francisco volleyball league at the open level. I found not only a passion for the sport, but also an exceptional community of player athletes, and friends, from around the world. My coaching career began in San Fransisco, California, where I coached youth volleyball and basketball across a number of schools and teams, winning multiple league championships. Before leaving the USA, I was Director of Volleyball for the Town School for Boys. I have continued my passion for playing and coaching multiple sports here in Melbourne. I currently play social volleyball with VFUM and join Al for some outdoor tournaments in the warm summer months on the beach. Current Roles: - u15 girls white head coach - GMVA Assisting Coach |
