I just finished up my third out of four seasons of playing college volleyball and it’s going by way too fast! This season was personally my best season yet, finishing second in the conference in overall digs and digs per set! As a result I received all-conference recognition along with my team captain who graduated this year but was third in the conference in solo blocks and blocks and kill percentage as our starting middle hitter! This season was also extremely tough academically taking on over the max amount of credits with our game schedule was not the best decision… but with the support of my teachers and coaching staff I somehow got through it and also got awarded academic all-conference and dean’s list! I’m lucky half my teammates and I live in the library together and help each other study and stay on track!
This semester I have a lot less of a demanding academic schedule and spring season is starting up soon! We have open gym three times a week and team lift twice a week. It is also known as “recruit season” around here so all the sports teams are hosting recruits on overnight visits and showing them around. I highly recommend if you get the opportunity for an overnight visit that you take it! Overnights are a great way to meet potential teammates and friends but they also give you a better feel for the school compared to just a tour. It’s a lot harder to organize one from Australia but they’re extremely worth the effort to make sure you’ll be happy for the next four years of college. Additionally, you usually get to watch a few practices or weight lifting sessions to see how your potential new team trains.
I can’t believe my four years are almost up!! It goes by way too fast so you have to make sure you enjoy every moment! I can’t wait for our spring season practices and games to start back up because there’s nothing like walking into your locker room and putting on your practice jersey or standing on game day listening to the first whistle after the national anthem to start the match!! I miss it so much and I’m only ever out of season for about two months. Best decision I ever made was to come play college volleyball Huge thanks as always to Luke and GMVA in helping me get where I am today. I appreciate it more and more every day!
